What ZQ Is (And What It Isn't)—And Why It’s Part of Every One of My Workshops

I didn't understand the power of a meditative movement until eight years into my Chinese medical practice. In fact, I didn't really like qigong when I was first introduced to it in school.

But that changed when I'd heard about the personal stories of people successfully healing what the West says is impossible.

I got curious and decided to investigate for myself.

And now, seven years later, I personally use and teach a powerful meditative practice that invites you to reconnect with the body and mind in the most real and embodied way.

Qigong can help you be more present, calm, heal longstanding ailments which supports you as a leader, a parent, a sibling, a neighbor...

What it is:
Zhineng Qigong (ZQ) is a powerful meditative practice that invites you to reconnect with the body and mind in the most real and embodied way. It’s healing, not just managing symptoms-assisting in what your body already knows how to do. The practices are so effective that a hospital in China was dedicated to using this specific form when nothing else worked elsewhere.

Think of it as one doorway to your own internal wisdom—a way to move energy, release tension, and cultivate balance in a world that feels completely out of balance.

Practicing ZQ isn’t about doing something complicated or perfect. The practice uses simple movements, meditations, and focus to help you activate the flow of energy in your body, opening pathways for healing, transformation, and resilience. And that’s why I’ve woven it into each of my workshops: because it works at a level that touches your whole being, inside and out.

Here’s where it’s part of each of my program:

  • In the May 2nd workshop for women in peri/menopause, ZQ helps release the tightness in the body that comes with hormonal shifts, making room for energy to flow and emotions to settle. It works alongside everything we’ll explore around how come, i.e. why the Asian cultures have less severe symptoms than North American women.

  • On May 18th, the start of monthly gatherings, Our Mother's Leadership: Rooted & Rising A Journey Aligning with Seasonal Wisdom, Healing in Action, for women with chronic health and high-stress, ZQ offers a grounded approach to navigating stress, using breath, movement, and awareness to help you find calm, balance, and healing from within. It’s not just about the fix, it’s about allowing the body to open and heal.

  • On June 1, in a 90 minute workshop on Zhineng Qigong at Yoga Heights, Takoma, DC The Heart and Mind Connection aligns your body and mind with the rhythms of summer through simple yet profound practices that promote whole-body health. Particular focus on the heart and spine openers. In Chinese medicine, the heart isn’t just an organ—it’s also the seat of the mind and emotions. It governs the body’s other organs functions and blood, as well as our thoughts and spirit. If the heart is disturbed, nothing functions well. This ZQ workshop will help you balance and strengthen the heart, the organ most closely associated with summer.

  • In the broader scope of my work, ZQ ties into everything. Whether we’re working with the heart (emotions, thoughts, and spirit) or the body (like your spine and back health), Zhineng Qigong is a practice that supports all aspects of you.

What ZQ isn’t:

Magic. Although it can feel like it.

It isn’t a quick fix, and yet like the entirety of my Wisdom Within Method, you will improve your sensory awareness and observe qi moving and shifting. This is your access to your own personal light switch.

You won’t find a 10-minute solution to life’s biggest challenges here. ZQ meets you where you already are in your life. It’s not about giving you a new tool to fix what’s broken—(btw, if it needs to be said, you’re not broken) it’s about realigning to your inherent wisdom that feels authentic and natural.

It also isn’t about doing everything right. I have done practices ‘wrong’, talked to other colleagues who did movements backwards, and we all improved!

Intention matters. ZQ is about practicing the process, showing up for yourself, and allowing healing to happen at its own pace.

Bonus: your practice benefits everyone around you, which is no small matter.

Well-being is realized by small steps but is truly no small thing.” - Zeno

You don’t need to be perfect to benefit from this work, and that’s why it’s a perfect fit for the humans I work with.

So why does ZQ belong in every one of my workshops and 1:1 clients?

Because, at its core, this practice is about cultivating presence, healing from within, and giving yourself the gift of truly being alive. It’s a support system for your body, mind, and spirit—no matter where you are on your journey.

It’s not about waiting for the perfect moment or seeking someone else’s answer. It’s about learning to listen to yourself and reclaim your own power. And that’s why we begin with ZQ: because healing starts with you.

Come with an open heart and mind to see where it can take you.
